A Niagara Falls subs and pizza shop is moving and will transition to a bar/restaurant down the street on Military Road.
David’s Steak Hoagy Inc. at 8442 Niagara Falls Blvd. in the Milpine Plaza will transform into David’s 716 Bar & Grill by October when it opens at 2424 Military Road, including a full bar and an expanded menu.
“Our core menu will be the same with subs and we’ll add more dinner menu items and change to a dine-in setting with waitresses,” said Robert "Bob Urso.
They have built a 4,300-square-foot building at the north end of Military Square Plaza. The new site for David’s 716 will have a full bar offering wine, liquor and beer, plus a banquet room with 100 seats and an outdoor patio with fire table inserts.
This is the second time the partners have moved a restaurant between the same two plazas: They bought Mom’s Family Restaurant in 2014, which started at the Milpine Plaza at Military and Pine Avenue/Niagara Falls Boulevard and later moved it to 2410 Military Road, also in the Military Square Plaza.
This time, the move is timed for the end of a lease term and a desire to expand operations.
Urso said having the two restaurants in the same plaza offers somebenefits: Mom’s is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering breakfast and lunch (including bottomless mimosas); while David’s 716 will be open lunch and dinner, allowing for some cross-over for staffers who want to work opposite shifts.
They got their start in the business in 2006 after buying DeDee’s Dairy at 8715 Niagara Falls Blvd., a seasonal ice cream shop at Cayuga Drive.
In all, the three restaurants employ about 65-70, a number that will increase by doubling the existing 15-person staff at David’s to accommodate growth and add wait staff, bartenders and kitchen staff.
“We’re kind of just increasing David’s but supersizing it,” Urso said.
